DescriptionThe University Centers Marketing Team is responsible for promoting the facilities, services and programs to segmented audiences, primarily undergraduate and graduate students. As a member of the Marketing Team, this position develops marketing plans for assigned events and programs, and coordinates the distribution of publicity and marketing materials for University Centers programs, events, facilities and services. Dissemination of publicity/marketing materials includes posting, flyering, table tents, staffing information tables, using social media, street team style promotions and marketing strategies, among many other activities. This position shall propose and execute new and unique marketing strategies; shall be active in promoting to students and increasing student event participation; shall publicize events and programs in front of large crowds, with a willingness to make enthusiastic public announcements on an as-needed basis; and shall upload and post event information via online social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Additional duties include passing out Syncs twice a quarter throughout campus, being punctual and thorough about posting events via all campus-wide marketing channels; and frequently working as a team member with fellow employees and event managers. In addition to marketing duties,the position requires the employee to work at least one night event during the week as well as weekend events when necessary. This position staffs and supports University Centers programs and events (movies, performances, concerts, Loft events, etc.). Employee must be able to meet in a team before each event shift to review event details and be a full team player, as well as, willing to setup and breakdown events, and manage/support end-of-night responsibilities. Ability to lift 25lbs, to move furniture as needed, and to clean venue and provide additional support for special events is required. Attend weekly Marketing Team meetings and other mandatory University Centers orientations. Position works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director – Marketing and Programs, with additional supervision provided by The Loft Curator and Commuter Events Programs Manager. Receives work direction from the Senior Marketing Assistant. Works closely with team members and Event Coordinators.
QualificationsGreat attitude and ability to work with the general public. Candidate must feel comfortable greeting people and speaking in front of a crowd. Must be self-motivated, punctual, dedicated, and willing to take the initiative to complete tasks with minimal direction. Able and willing to work within tight deadlines, often on short notice. Available to work evenings and weekends. Willing to promote events, programs, and services through multiple channels, including word of mouth. Willing to staff events, programs, and services, including evening events (some shifts ending by 11pm or midnight). Interested in marketing, communications, social media outreach, branding and marketing strategy; experience a plus. Interested in providing students with information about University Centers programs, services, facilities and events. Interested in popular music, blockbuster movies, social events, and visual art projects; special event experience a plus. Can stand and sit for extended periods of time. General knowledge of the San Diego area, or UC San Diego and University Centers spaces (Price Center and Student Center ). Must pay UCSD Student Services fees each quarter working.
